Frequently Asked Questions
Was your Garden Studio built from a kit?
No, it was a custom build by my husband and son and started with a vision I had to use old salvaged windows for the walls. As a photographer it would allow dreamy light to enter the space. I was thrilled to find all of the windows that I needed for the design at Schillers, a local salvage yard, and best of all, they came from an 1800’s historic building that was demolished in our town years ago.
What type of photography and art do you do in your studio?
Interior styling really has my heart especially when I can salvage, repurpose, and up-cycle items in a design that takes place in what I like to call a reincarnated space. I love playing with the light and shadows to create drama, visual interest, and photos that draw you into a cozy curated ever changing design space. Whether it is a full room design or a seasonal tablescape photographed as a flatlay, the creative process brings me so much joy! I have also done a variety of portrait, lifestyle, and business branding photography, focusing mainly on women.
What inspired your book Tablescapes~Design Inspiration Through the Seasons?
Whenever we entertained, I couldn’t wait to create a unique table for our guests to enjoy which enhanced the dining experience. Over time, I collected such an eclectic assortment of table decor, once the studio was built and I had a dedicated place to be creative, the designs really started to flow! Creating unique designs using all of those, vintage, heirloom, thrifted, and salvaged things became somewhat of an obsession. I new it was only a matter of time that my catalog of designs and photos would find their way into a coffee table book.
Where do you collect your natural elements from?
Having traveled all over the country and seeing regional treasures in the form of rocks, acorns, leaves, oyster shells, twigs, nuts, and a variety of pinecones, they always seemed to find their way back home with me. I thought what better way to celebrate nature than to incorporate them into my designs which also adds texture, layers and of course a whole lot of visual interest. Many of the items are also collected right in my own backyard or on walks in my community. I love seeing them live on in such an artful way.
